Description

A new commission by my good friend :iconj8d: J8d

My latest OC, Ambrosia (whose name I keep having to correct 'cos I often type the letters in the wrong order, lol) is back. And this time, it's a photo of what she was doing in 1963. Or maybe early 1964.

Ambrosia is sitting down to watch one of the very first stories of a new - and still at the time little-known - science fiction show, Doctor Who. In fact, she's watching The Daleks*, the second serial ever and the first to introduce the show's iconic monsters as the Doctor's enemy (ironically, the BBC executives wanted to can the serial, as they wanted a more serious TV show without any Bug Eyed Monsters! :P)

Ah, the simple, geometric styles of the mid-60s! xD Okay, so this fashion was probably more popular a couple of years later, but I really wanted to connect this style (Mod fashion? Correct if I'm wrong....I'm unsure, being that I wasn't born 'til the 80s! xD) with the start of Doctor Who being broadcast.

Ambrosia is cute, and © me.

The concept of Doctor Who is © BBC. This movie - "Doctor Who and the Daleks" is © to .... actually, I'm not sure. But it's © to them anyway.

(*This isn't actually a Doctor Who serial. I asked J8d to include a screencap of Doctor Who as a reflection behind Ambrosia's shoulder, in a window or mirror or something, showing us what she's watching on the telly. But instead, he used this screencap from the 1964 movie "Doctor Who and the Daleks", which is not part of the Doctor Who TV series at all, it's a separate film only loosely based on the TV series, starring completely different people, different sets and props designs, filmed in colour, and was screened in the cinemas)

Late commenting on this, but a nice character design and I do like the 60's aesthetics on this one, rather reminds me of the outfits you'd see on Mrs Peel in The Avengers, so doubly suitable for the time period. =p Odd fact about Doctor Who, the first episode was broadcast on the same day of the Kennedy assassination so they rebroadcast it a week later. A rather nice looking design here once more.
