The Faraway Children

Yet another picture that I commissioned from late last year. The guy is a drawing machine! He just seems to take a neverending line of picture commissions from people like me (read: people with money and zero artistic talent), , and appears to churn out their ideas as pictures on a daily basis. He is awesome.

This is based on the central characters in the trilogy "The Enchanted Wood" by Enid Blyton, written in about the 40s and 50s. Hence the old-fashioned looking clothing. It's a great book for children, as the kids are the central characters, and they help all the other characters.

Three children find a tree in the Enchanted Woods beyond the bottom of their garden; the woods are magical, and all sorts of magical animals and unusual characters live in it. Deep in the woods is the Magical Faraway Tree, which is so tall that the top of it breaks through into other magical lands (which land changes on a daily basis), where the children have their adventures.

The children in question are: Jo (the boy, in the middle), sister Bessie (on the left), and younger sister Fanny (right, duh ^^). In hindsight, the dungarees and sandals that Jo is sporting look, as one friend put it "A bit too like Huck Finn".
