This new commission picture that I just received from :iconarabatos: ~arabatos was just simply soooo cute, I just had to share it with you as soon as possible! :huggle:

I asked ~arabatos to draw me a sweet little scene featuring two characters from one of my favourite shows in my childhood - The Get-Along Gang. They are Dotty Dog, and Portia Porcupine. I assume you can tell which is which. :D

There were so many great children's cartoons back in the 80s, not like some of the mass-manufactured dross that's pumped out for little kids these days (I don't mean ALL the current children's cartoons...just some of them). Often, it seems like little children are encouraged to not think at all, as that generally makes the viewing experience slightly more pleasant. :p BRING BACK THE OLDER CARTOONS, I SAYS! :D

All those old cartoons - The Get-Along Gang, Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears, The Care Bears, Thundercats, The Visionaries, He-Man (not the new version - it looks totally wrong), Rainbow Brite, My Little Pony....I liked all of them, thanks to many afternoons sat in front of the TV with my big sis. :cuddle:

Amazingly, I checked up at Wikipedia and found to my astonishment that the Get-Along Gang, made by American Greetings (and not, as I thought when I was little, a Disney show), in fact only ran for 13 episodes. That's right, THIRTEEN. I swear, ITV must've run the same episodes around for about 3 years straight in that case.

:iconarabatos: ~arabatos really captured the look and the feel of this (imho) classic cartoon, with Dotty being all motherly (very in-character for her) towards Portia, who's taken a little tumble while they were out rollerskating together. The roller-sandals look really cute and go especially well with Dotty's outfit (I've seen photos of that type of rollersandals, they used to be quite popular back in the 70s/80s). Wow, this feels like a pretty long submitter's comment, doesn't it? :typerhappy:

Dotty Dog, Portia Porcupine, and The Get-Along Gang are © American Greetings.
THIS ADORABLE ARTWORK WAS DRAWN BY THE VERY TALENTED :iconarabatos: ~arabatos.

I heard amazing facts that “Get-Along Gang” was inspired by “Hal Roach’s Our Gang aka The Little Rascals”. :)
